Mulching

Mornings on my days off is my time to work in the garden while everyone sleeps. I’m often out working at 6 in the morning.

Right now I’m laying down my mulch layer. Working at the newspaper I have access to lots of newspapers! I lay the newspapers down and then spread straw over the top. This makes a super biodegradable mulch, and I love that I can get out into the garden after a rain without stepping in the mud.

I’ll leave the mulch layer on all year, in the spring, Chris will burn it off, then I’ll till and start all over. Taking a few hours to lay down mulch saves me so much time and frustration since I don’t have to fight with weeds.
